A lot of money.
A few things about this lamp that will give one pause. It is a lot of money for LED technology that really is not new or expensive to manufacture. The arms of the lamp are long which mandates that the base be quite large. The work-around is the supplied clamp-on base. I found that using the clamp-on base is unacceptable because it marred my desk. The aforementioned arms were wobbly in their fit and sagged on extension.
On the plus side the lamp offers several levels of illumination that cover a generous area without harsh shadows. The red paint finish is well done and looks nice. The design is striking and looks extremely sleek.
If this lamp were priced at about half of its current price it would be a nice deal.

Excellent Desk Light
I purchased this light because I needed a nice desk lamp for college. This light is awesome! It defintately lives up to the designer's claims--it produces 'natural light'. Every light in my room gives off a horrible yellow light in comparison. The main selling point of this light is that it virtually produces no heat. There is a minor heat produced from the bulb but the lamp never gets more than warm to the touch even after being on for hours. While the light is on the pricey side I felt it was well worth the investment. Best lamp I've ever owned. I will surely buy OTT products in the future!

good deal for this particular typeI've seen this kind of lamp advertised on office supplies online stores and they go anywhere from 2x to 3x the price of this lamp. This makes the lamp a good deal for this particular type. I've found cheaper lamps for about $20 but the arm on those cheapos doesn't stay in its intended position and the knobs don't do anything. The build on this lamp appears to be of good quality. Almost all parts are made of steel or some other metal. I was going to purchase this off of amazon but I found out that there is a Lamps Plus store near where I live so I went there in person to check it out. The arm on the display model worked rather well and so does the one I have now. The main downside I've seen so far is that you can only get this in white. One last thing is that the one I purchased included both the circular fluorescent and incadescent bulbs.

Good for the right purpose and personAlthough this lamp has some important flaws I can live with them and it has some excellent qualities for the price.
For a lot more money you can probably find better archiect halogen lamps but this looked better than other similar lamps in its price class to me.
The pluses:
* bright 50w Halogen bulb provides intense balanced white light
* arm can be positioned anywhere within a hemisphere of radius 3'
* light be oriented in any direction
* Elegent Euro styling
* black matte finish
* very light weight arm
* illuminates a rectangle about 5' x 3' at 2' from the lamp
the minuses:
* The weighted base is not quite heavy enough to balance the lamp.
- When the lamp is fully extended in the horizontal position it is not completely stable (you might not need to do this).
- When pulling the lamp quickly into a position far from the base it might tip over (you can maneuver the lamp more carefully.
- A clamp-on lamp will do better in this regard. However this lamp can be put anywhere on the table and looks nicer than a clamp-on.
* The lamp comes with a warning not to look directly at the lamp due to UV light eye damage. This is scary. There is a glass cover to filter out UV but apparently it is not enough. In some situations with the lamp positioned high above the work area it is impossible to avoid sometimes glancing at the lamp.
* The lamp comes with a warning not to shine it on your skin if you feel the warmth. More scary UV damage.
* the rectangular metal lamp shield/hood gets very hot. I don't get a burn from a quick accidental touch but it's scary. To position and orient the lamp there is a long inelegant metal screw projecting from the base of the hood and a metal handle with a plastic cover at the end of the hood. The plastic cover easily falls off. The metal screw gets uncomfortably warm but not too hot to grab. Orienting the hood is thus a bit awkward and takes two hands as well as coordination so as not to pull the lamp over.
* The 50w bulb is bright enough to light a desktop but not a room.
I use this as a night reading lamp. I love the elegant looks and thin lamp support. I far prefer the balanced white of the halogen bulb. I can position it exactly where I need it over a large area to illuminate the book very brightly. It takes up little room on my night table.
Also it was reasonably priced. I intend to get another for my work desk.More detail ...
HappyLite Mini has changed my lifeThis product is amazing. Turn it on and fill the entire room with a soft glow that will change your mood for the better instantly. It might be a bit intense when you first turn it on but you'll get used to it very quickly. The lamp was easy to put together and has two different settings of lighting intensity. The light emitted is very easy on the eyes and is excellent for reading computing or any everyday task. The unit also uses very little power and has a small footprint.
Everybody should get one of these especially if you have Seasonal Anxiety Disorder. It works bottom line.

They really got the details right on this buying a couple moreI had some concerns about a few things just based on other LED products I've got. But this one has no LED issues and we're getting a few more for the office.
1: On max brightness this will light up an entire work surface. This new unit with only 6 LEDs is bright on max level. I'd say it's brighter a standard fluorescent desk light and covers a larger area.
2: The Daylight White still looks like a high quality high Kelvin light source - it is not too "blue-ish" - I had been concerned about that based on cheaper led products.
3: On low brightness it does not have any flicker. As you may know LEDs are usually dimmed by cycling them on and off and as a result many LED products have a high frequency flicker that I can usually see. I'm pretty sensitive to flicker maybe due to my eye condition (albinism) and I can usually see the flicker in indirect tube TV light and cheap LED Christmas lights but I cannot see it here at all on any brightness level.
Low brightness is also nice for generic background lighting. I tend to use just off low and high and ignore brightness levels 2 and 3.
4: The AC adapter is pleasantly tiny - you could mistake it for a cell phone charger - very efficient light source I guess. The light also returns to the same brightness level if you disconnect it from AC (at least for short periods did not test overnight) This one thin wire is the only wire you'll see - all other electricity travels through the secure mechanical connections.
5: If you have a smaller workspace like just a phone and notepad you might want to check out the mini 4 LED version. This full sized one is for a larger work surface.
Very impressed.
My only suggestion and this is tiny is that the on and off press buttons could be a bit lower down on the neck. There's a slight wobble when you press the on button - any similar design would have that - and it would be minimized if they moved the buttons down an inch.
And I guess it could have buttons for each power level but then that would be 5 buttons instead of 2 and that makes it more complicated so never mind. Or just have 2 brightness levels low and high and off requiring only 3 buttons. When you turn it on you do need to cycle through the 3 lower brightness levels to get to max. And then to turn it off you go back down through those 3 other levels. Not a big deal this is a TINY and possibly bad suggestion.
